Cradit Card Balance Increase for Credit Score By Brooke Barnett of United First Financial When should you ask for a credit limit increase on a credit card? There are a few things we must get straight before this can be answered. Is your card a department store card or a specialty credit card? If it is I suggest you work towards getting at least 2 major credit cards and closing the specialty cards. Most credit scoring companies will look at these cards as an act of desperation. Is your card a major credit card such as Mastercard, American Express, AMEX, Visa, Diners Club? Depending on who the backer on your card is will depend on how ofter they check to see if you qualify for a limit increase. Since there is no standard I have found with thousands of clients it is best to call and ask for manual increase ever 6 months to one year. An increase can only help your credit scaore and costs you nothing because you only pay interest on the balance you use.
